Connecting a Phone Line Connecting a Phone Line You need to connect a phone line to take advantage of online services and the Internet. ✍ In order to register your Sony VAIO notebook, register your software online, and use Sony Customer Support, you must connect to a phone line. 1 Plug one end of the phone cable into the modem jack on the notebook. Connecting Phone Cable Modem jack Phone cable (optional) 2 Plug the other end of the phone cable into the wall jack. Wall jack ✍ Your notebook does not work with party lines, cannot be connected to a coin-operated telephone, and may not work with multiple phone lines or a private branch exchange (PBX). Some of these connections may result in excess electrical current and could cause a malfunction in the internal modem. If you connect a phone line coming through a splitter, the modem or connected device may not work properly. 47
