267 Using the RAID-0 or RAID-1 Utility Using RAID RAID-0 RAID-0 provides improved performance in writing data to or reading data from your computer's internal hard disks. RAID-0 is configured by creating an array which specifies the hard disks which striped data will be written to or read from. For your computer, you will create an array consisting of the computer's primary internal hard disk and secondary internal hard disk. When a RAID-0 array is configured, data is written to the internal hard disks using a technique called striping. The computer collects the data to be written until a specific amount of data has been collected. Then, the data is equally divided. One portion (stripe) is written to the primary hard disk. The other portion (stripe) is written to the secondary hard disk. The two portions of data are simultaneously written to the hard disks. That way, a file that would take normally 30 seconds to write to a single hard disk would take approximately 15 seconds to write simultaneously to the two hard disks in the RAID-0 array. The speed in reading data from the hard disks is also improved as data is simultaneously read from both hard disks. A file that would normally take 30 seconds to retrieve would take approximately 15 seconds to read from the RAID-0 array.
