NOTICE: 0 Brake Wear Unless you have the four-wheel disc brake option, your Chevrolet has front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. Disc brake pads have built-in wear indicators that make a high-pitched warning sound when the brake pads are worn and new padsare needed. The sound may come andgo or be heard al the time your vehicleis moving (except when l you are pushing on the brake pedal firmly). 0 Using the wrong fluidcan badly damage brake system parts. For example, just a few drops of mineral-based oil, suchas engine oil, in your brake system can damage brake system parts so badly that they'll haveto be replaced. Don't let someone put inthe wrong kind of fluid. If you spill brake fluid on your vehicle's painted surfaces, the paintfinish can be damaged. Be careful not to spill brake fluid on your vehicle. If you do, washit off immediately. See"Appearance Care" in the Index. The brake wear warning sound meansthat soon your brakes won't work well. That could leadto an accident. Whenyou hear the brake wear warning sound, haveyour vehicle serviced. I NOTICE: Continuing to drive with worn-out brake pads could result in costly brake repair. 6-37
