Shock absorber adjusters (fig. 50 and fig. 51) The shock absorber has external adjusters that enable you to adjust the suspension to suit the load on the motorcycle. Adjuster (1), located on the left-hand side at the point at which the top of the shock absorber is fixed to the rear sub-frame, controls rebound damping. Turn the adjuster (1) clockwise to increase damping, or counter-clockwise to reduce damping. 1100 STANDARD setting from the fully closed position (clockwise): - unscrew the adjuster (1) by 13 clicks. Spring preload: 18 mm. 1100S STANDARD setting from the fully closed position (clockwise): - unscrew the adjuster (1) by 15 clicks. Spring preload: 19 mm. The two nuts (2) on the upper part of the shock absorber serve to adjust the preload on the external spring. To change spring preload, slacken off the upper lock nut. Then TIGHTEN or LOOSEN the lower nut to INCREASE or DECREASE spring preload as required. 1100 fig. 50 1 2 E 1 Warning The shock absorber is filled with gas under pressure and may cause severe damage if taken apart by unskilled persons. 1100S 2 fig. 51 57

Shock absorber adjusters
(fig. 50 and fig. 51)
The shock absorber has external adjusters that enable you to
adjust the suspension to suit the load on the motorcycle.
Adjuster (1), located on the left-hand side at the point at
which the top of the shock absorber is fixed to the rear
sub-frame, controls rebound damping.
Turn the adjuster (1) clockwise to increase damping, or
counter-clockwise to reduce damping.

STANDARD setting from the fully closed position
(clockwise):
-
unscrew the adjuster (1) by 13 clicks.
Spring preload: 18 mm.

STANDARD setting from the fully closed position
(clockwise):
-
unscrew the adjuster (1) by 15 clicks.
Spring preload: 19 mm.
The two nuts (2) on the upper part of the shock absorber
serve to adjust the preload on the external spring. To change
spring preload, slacken off the upper lock nut. Then TIGHTEN
or LOOSEN
the lower nut to INCREASE
or DECREASE
spring
preload as required.
Warning
The shock absorber is filled with gas under pressure
and may cause severe damage if taken apart by unskilled
persons.
