Supplemental Restraint System After the bag completely inflates, it immediately starts deflating so it won't interfere with your visibility, ability to steer or ability to operate other controls. The total time for inflating and deflation takes a fraction of a second. You may not even be aware that the airbag has been fully inflated. The airbag is stored in the center of the steering wheel. For safety, do not attach any items to the steering wheel. They could interfere with the proper operation of the airbag. Or, if the airbag inflates, the items could be propelled inside the car and hurt someone. The airbag is quite large and inflates with considerable force.
