J39L(02MY).book Page 9 Thursday, November 1, 2001 10:49 AM Knowing Your Mazda Doors and Locks Liftgate (Hatchback) M Remote Liftgate Lock If your Mazda has a power door-lock system (page 3-8), the liftgate can be locked/unlocked by one of the following methods: • Use a key in either front door. • Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the transmitter. • Pushing the area on the door-lock switch marked "LOCK" or the unmarked part. WARNING Open Liftgate: An open liftgate in a moving vehicle will cause exhaust gas to be drawn into the cabin. This gas contains CO (carbon monoxide), which is colorless, odorless, and highly poisonous, and it can cause loss of consciousness and death. So keep the liftgate closed when driving. M Opening and Closing the Liftgate To open the liftgate, pull up on the handle. M Locking, Unlocking with Key To lock the liftgate with the key, insert the key and turn it counterclockwise.
