Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) If this indicator light comes on steady or blinks while the engine is running, it may indicate a potential emission control malfunction. The Malfunction Indicator Light may also come on steady if the fuel-filler cap is loose or missing, or if the vehicle runs out of fuel. VQ35DE: This light illuminates and then turns off when the ignition switch is placed to the ON position. Ifthisindicatorlightcomesonsteadyorblinks
whiletheengineisrunning,itmayindicatea

TheMalfunctionIndicatorLightmayalsocome
onsteadyifthefuel-fillercapislooseormissing,
orifthevehiclerunsoutoffuel.Checktomake
surethefuel-fillercapisinstalledandclosed
tightly,andthatthevehiclehasatleast3gallons
(11.4liters)offuelinthefueltank.
Afterafewdrivingtrips,the
lightshould
turnoffifnootherpotentialemissioncontrol
systemmalfunctionexists.
Ifthisindicatorlightcomesonsteadyfor20sec-
ondsandthenblinksfor10secondswhenthe
engineisnotrunning,itindicatesthatthevehicle
is not ready for an emission control system
inspection/maintenancetest.See“Readinessfor
inspection/maintenance(I/M)test”inthe“Tech-
nicalandconsumerinformation”sectionofthis
manual.

The
lightshouldturnoffafterafew
drivingtrips.Ifthe
lightdoesnotturn
offafterafewdrivingtrips,havethevehicle
inspectedbyaNISSANdealer.Youdonot
needtohaveyourvehicletowedtothe
dealer.
MalfunctionIndicatorLightblinking—An
enginemisfirehasbeendetectedwhichmay
damagetheemissioncontrolsystem.Tore-
duceoravoidemissioncontrolsystemdam-
age:
–donotdriveatspeedsabove45MPH
