Spark Arrestor MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION To remove accumulated carbon, clean the spark arrestor at the intervals recommended in the Periodic Maintenance Chart. WARNING Failure to heed the following warnings while servicing the spark arrestor could result in serious injury or death. Do not perform service on the spark arrestor while the system is hot. Allow components to cool sufficiently before proceeding. Wear eye protection and gloves. Never run the engine in an enclosed area. Exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas. 1. Remove the bolt (A) and remove the arrestor (B) from the end of the muffler. 2. Use a non-synthetic brush to clean the arrestor screen. A synthetic brush may melt if components are warm. If necessary, blow debris from the screen with compressed air. 3. Inspect the screen for wear and damage (replace the arrestor if damage is found). 4. Reinstall the arrestor. 5. Torque the bolt to 7 ft. lbs. (9.5 Nm). A B 93

Spark Arrestor

recommended in the Periodic Maintenance Chart.

Remove the bolt (A)
and remove the
arrestor (B) from the
end of the muffler.
2.
Use a non-synthetic brush
to clean the arrestor screen.

components are warm. If necessary, blow
debris from the screen with compressed air.
3.
Inspect the screen for wear and damage
(replace the arrestor if damage is found).
4.
Reinstall the arrestor.
5.
Torque the bolt to 7 ft. lbs. (9.5 Nm).
