2.4 Installing a CPU The motherboard comes with a surface mount LGA775 socket designed for the Intel® Core™2 Quad / Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Duo / Pentium® Extreme / Pentium® D/ Pentium® 4 processors. This system is designed for Intel® 65W desktop processors. Other Intel® processors higher than 65W may not provide optimum performance. Refer to ASUS CPU support list for more details. http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us. 2.4.1 CPU installation • Your boxed Intel® LGA775 processor package should come with installation instructions for the CPU, heatsink, and the retention mechanism. If the instructions in this section do not match the CPU documentation, follow the latter. • Check your motherboard to make sure that the socket contacts are not bent. Contact your retailer immediately if you see any damage to the socket contacts/motherboard components. ASUS will shoulder the cost of repair only if the damage is shipment/transit‑related. • The product warranty does not cover damage to the socket contacts resulting from incorrect CPU installation or removal. Installing the CPU To install a CPU: 1. Locate the CPU socket on the motherboard.
