For safety, you should... Always visually check to see that the chamber is unloaded. Never assume that a firearm is unloaded (even with a gun that is new and in its original packaging). Never point a firearm toward yourself or another person. Lock the slide in the open position and remove the magazine before handing the pistol to another person. Never take any pistol from another person unless the slide has been locked open, the magazine has been removed and the chamber has been visually checked to confirm it is unloaded. 27
