Preparing the Camera, Basic Functions About the Histogram The histogram is a graph that allows you to judge the brightness of the recorded image. The greater the bias toward the left in the graph, the darker the image. The greater the bias toward to the right, the brighter the image. If the image is dark, adjust the exposure compensation to a positive number. Similarly, adjust the exposure compensation to a negative number if the image is bright (p. 85). Notice Concerning Shooting When using this camera to shoot scenes containing extremely bright subjects, a vertical, red bar of light may appear on the LCD monitor. This is a normal occurrence in devices containing CCDs and does not constitute a malfunction. This red bar of light will not be recorded when shooting still photos, but it will be recorded when shooting movies. 37
