■ When You Receive a Voice Call The answering machine will record any voice messages. Adjusting the Answering Machine Adjust your answering machine as follows: • Set the answering machine to answer on the first or second ring. • The entire message should be no longer than 15 seconds. • In the message, tell your callers how to send a fax. Receiving with a DRPD (Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection) Service: DRPD If you want to select , check the following: ■ Select This Mode If: 5 • you only have one telephone line for both fax and telephone use. • you want to receive faxes automatically as well as voice calls. Receiving Faxes • you have subscribed to a DRPD (Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection) service with your telephone company. This service assigns two or more fax/telephone numbers with distinctive ring patterns to a single telephone line, allowing you to have both a fax number(s) and a telephone number(s) using only one telephone line. The machine will automatically monitor incoming calls and based on the ring pattern, will let you know if the call is a fax or voice call. Contact your telephone company for more information on this service. ■ You Will Need to: • set . (See "Setting the Receive Mode," on p. 5-1.) • connect a telephone to the machine. (See "Connect the telephone cable and any necessary external device," in the Set-Up Sheet.) ■ When You Receive a Fax Call The telephone will ring according to the ring pattern you have chosen and the machine receives the fax automatically. ■ When You Receive a Voice Call The telephone will ring according to the ring pattern you have chosen.
