Appendix B: Care and Maintenance The CGX mount is sturdy and will last many years when properly cared for. Storage Although the mount and electronics are designed for outdoor usage, you should not store the mount outside unless it's sheltered by an observatory or storage shelter of some kind (such as a garage). Constant hot, cold, and humidity extremes can eventually cause wear to the electronics, mechanical lubrication and the finish quality of the mount. Store in a sheltered area away from the Sun. Keep in a dry place if possible. Worm Gear Mesh Adjustment The worm gears in the CGX are spring loaded for optimum mesh against the worm wheel. This also accommodates temperature changes. However, if you find the backlash has increased or is otherwise not optimal, you can make an adjustment to the gear mesh. Do not attempt to make this adjustment until you have confirmed the backlash warrants it. Do not overtighten the worm gear mesh, as binding could result. 1. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the gear cover for the axis you intend to adjust (Figure 12). 3. Using a 2mm and 2.5mm Allen wrench, make very slight adjustments as needed to optimize the gear mesh (Figure X2). •  If the worm block does not recoil, the mesh is too tight, or the limit screw is pushing the block against the worm wheel. - Turn the Range Limit Screw clockwise and check for recoil. - Turn the Distance Adjustment Screw clockwise and check for recoil. • If the worm block recoils but there is noticeable backlash when the axis is locked. - Turn the Distance Adjustment Screw counterclockwise very slightly, only 1/16th of a turn or less and retest. - Tighten the Range Limit Screw slightly if the recoil exceeds approximately 1mm. Test the mesh by grabbing hold of the motor and worm block with your hand and pulling it away from the worm wheel. - Turn the Range Limit Screw clockwise and
check for recoil°
- Turn the Distance Adjustment Screw clockwise
and check for recoil°

clockwise very slightly, only 1/16th of a turn or
