5 Maintain Fan Modules The PS6610 array contains five cooling fan modules. The array is capable of operating with one failed fan module; however all five cooling modules are required to maintain long-term cooling and reliability of the array. Remove a Cooling Fan Module Although an array can operate with only four working fan modules, you should replace the failed fan unit as soon as possible. For proper array cooling, do not remove the failed fan unit until you are ready to replace it. Caution: The fan module replacement procedure (removal and installation) should be completed in less than 2 minutes to ensure proper cooling of the array. How to Remove a Cooling Fan Module Wear electrostatic protection when handling a cooling module. See Hardware Protection on page 6. To remove a cooling module: 1. From the rear of the unit, hold the handle protruding from the cooling fan and push down on the orange release latch to the right (callout 2 in Figure 26) with your thumb. 2.
