19 Configuring Port Characteristics This chapter describes how to configure physical switch port characteristics, including settings such as administrative status and maximum frame size. This chapter also describes the link dependency feature. Cables physically connect ports on devices such as PCs or servers to ports on the switch to provide access to the network. The type of physical ports available on your PowerConnect 8000/8100-series switch depends on the model. What Physical Port Characteristics Can Be Configured? Table 19-1 provides a summary of the physical characteristics that can be configured on the switch ports. Table 19-1. Port Characteristics Feature Administrative status Description Auto negotiation Description Controls whether the port is administratively enabled or disabled.
