19 Troubleshooting: Your Array Safety First-For you and Your Array CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product. Troubleshooting Storage Array Startup Failure If your system halts during startup, check if: • The array emits a series of beeps. • The array fault LEDs are lit. See "RAID Controller Modules" on page 29. • There is a constant scraping or grinding sound when you access the hard drive. See "Getting Help" on page 253. Troubleshooting Loss of Communication For information about troubleshooting loss of communication, see "Troubleshooting Array and Expansion Enclosure Connections" on page 247. Troubleshooting External Connections • Verify that the cables are connected to the correct ports before troubleshooting any external devices. For the location of the back-panel connectors on your array, see Figure 3-1. • Ensure that all the cables are securely attached to the external connectors on your array. • For information on cabling, see the Dell™ PowerVault™ MD3200 Deployment Guide.
