FEATURES • Belt Drive The T65C platter is belt driven. This drive system was chosen because the belt isolates the platter and consequently the record and cartridge from vibrations created by motor. • High Mass Platter To provide low wow and flutter and smooth, consistent rotation, a 3.3 pound (1.5 kg) platter is employed. ■ Wood Base The base is composed of high density particle board. This results in a construction that is both rigid and vibrationabsorbent. Its higher mass also reduces acoustical interference. ■ Counterweighted Floating Suspension A floating sub-chassis is employed to mechanically isolate the platter and tonearm from vibration. The sub-chassis is a die-cast aluminum structure that is spring-coupled to the base at three points equally spaced around the platter spindle. A counterweight is mounted on the sub-chassis, opposite the tonearm, thus balancing the sub-chassis with the platter spindle at the center of the mass. ■ Sine-wave Driven Motor with Quartz-locked PLL System An improved, highly sophisticated, sine-wave driven motor was especially designed. The coreless and brushless motor rotation features the ultimate in smooth operation without cogging and vibration. The PLL system directly detects the motor speed with hall elements. The motor rotation is thus highly stable in both the quartz-locked and the manual speed control modes. • Low Mass Straight Tapered Tube Tonearm An effective mass of 9.5 grams assures excellent tracking with a wide range of medium to high compliance cartridges. The high-mass pivot assembly impedes vibration from being transmitted to the stylus tip. Weight and wire antiskating, a lateral balancer and vertical pivot height adjustment provide the capability for complete tonearm alignment. • Optimum Tracking Geometry The effective tonearm length, stylus overhang and offset angle have been precisely determined to provide the lowest possible harmonic distortion over the total playing area. • Capacitance Trim A selector has been provided so that the capacitive load impedance can be adjusted to ensure the optimum cartridge performance. ■ Vibration Absorbent Platter Mat and Disc Stabilizer A special rubber compound, featuring several thousandths of the rebound coefficient (bounce) of typical rubber, absorbs platter vibrations that would normally be transmitted to the record and stylus tip. Used in conjunction with the disc stabilizer, acoustic feedback and disc jitter are greatly reduced. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS Always Use at 120V AC This unit is designed for operation with 120V AC. Connect only to domestic AC outlets. Never connect the unit to an outlet supplying a higher voltage. This may create a fire hazard. Handle the Power Cord Gently • Do not disconnect the plug from the AC outlet by pulling the cord; always pull the plug itself. Pulling the cord may break the wire. • If you do not intend to use your unit for any considerable length of time, disconnect the plug from the AC outlet. • Do not place furniture or other heavy objects on the cord, and avoid dropping heavy objects on it. Also do not make a knot in the power cord. Not only may the cord be damaged, it can also cause a short circuit and a consequent fire hazard. Place of Installation Place your unit on a firm and level surface. Avoid installing your unit under the following conditions: ►Moist or humid places. ►Places exposed to direct sunlight or close to heating equipment. ►Extremely cold locations such as those in the direct draft from an air conditioner. ►Places subject to excessive vibration or dust. ►Poorly ventilated places. Moving the Unit Before moving the unit, be sure to unplug the power cord from the AC outlet and disconnect the interconnection cords to other units. Do Not Open the Cabinet To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not tamper with internal components for inspection or maintenance. Harman Kardon does not guarantee against performance degradation resulting from any modification. If water, a hairpin or wire accidentally enters the unit, immediately unplug the power cord from the AC outlet to prevent shock and consult an authorized Harman Kardon service station. If you use the unit under this condition, it may cause a fire or shock hazard. Cleaning When the unit gets dirty, wipe it with a soft dry cloth. If necessary, wipe it with a soft cloth dampened with mild soapy water and then wipe with a dry cloth. Never use benzine, thinner, alcohol or other volatile agent, and avoid spraying an insecticide near the unit. 2
