Software installation for Microsoft Windows Installation options The HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system software can be used with the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printer in the following configurations: ● You install the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system software on a computer that is directly connected to the product through a USB port, and that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. ● You install the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system software on a computer that is directly connected to the product through a USB port, and that is running Microsoft Windows 98 SE or Microsoft Windows Me. ● You install the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system software on a computer that is directly connected to the product through a USB port, and that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 . You can then share your HP Color LaserJet 1600 printer with other users on your network using Microsoft Windows sharing. Microsoft Windows installation for direct connections Use the following instructions to install the product software on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. NOTE Set up and turn on the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printer before installing the printingsystem software. Do not connect the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printer to the computer until the software installation program prompts you. NOTE You must have Administrator privileges to install the printing-system software on Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003. 1. Quit all open programs. 2. Insert the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system software CD into the CD-ROM drive. NOTE If your CD does not start automatically, click Start, click Run, and then browse to and double-click the SETUP.EXE file in the root directory of the CD. 3. Follow the onscreen prompts to install the software. 4. When the installation is nearly complete, the Finish dialog box appears and you can print a test page. Click the Print a test page check box, and then click Finish to finish the installation and print a test page. 5. If you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes. ENWW Installation options 25
