Installing the printing-system using Microsoft Windows Plug and Play The HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system software installer does not support Microsoft Windows 98 SE or Microsoft Windows Me. You must use a Plug and Play installation to install the printing-system software on computers running Microsoft Windows 98 SE or Microsoft Windows Me. Installation for Microsoft Windows 98 SE Up to two events might occur when you install the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system software using Microsoft Windows Plug and Play . If the USB Printing Support (USB001 port) does not already exist on the computer, the installer first installs the USB Printing Support driver (steps 5 through 9). Then the installer installs the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printer driver. The procedures described in steps 4 through 8 might not occur if USB Printing Support already exists on the computer. In addition to the USB print support and print driver, the installer also installs the HP Toolbox. Because the HP Toolbox is installed with the printer driver, a separate Plug and Play event does not occur. Follow these steps to install the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system software on a computer running Microsoft Windows 98 SE. 1. Verify that the HP Color LaserJet 1600 is turned on and that the READY message appears on the printer control panel. 2. Close all open programs on your computer. 3. Insert the HP Color LaserJet 1600 printing-system CD into the CD-ROM drive on your computer. NOTE If an error message appears that says SETUP is not available in Windows 98 and Me. Please use Add Printer Wizard or Plug and Play to install the driver., click OK and go to step 4. 4. Connect a USB cable between the printer and your computer.
