Description DVD±RW and CD-RW Super Multi Double-Layer Combo Drive Optical drive insert for use in models without an optical drive Spare part number 685096-001 702756-001 Before removing the optical drive, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 34). 5. Remove the memory module/wireless module compartment cover (see WLAN module on page 42). 6. Remove the hard drive (see Hard drive on page 47). To remove the optical drive: 1. Remove the Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screw (1) that secures the optical drive to the computer. 2. Insert a screwdriver or similar small tool into the hole at the rear of the optical drive bay, and then push the optical drive (2) to release it from the bay. Component replacement procedures 51

Before removing the optical drive, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn
the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2.
Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3.
Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet
and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4.
Remove the battery (see

5.
Remove the memory module/wireless module compartment cover (see

).
6.
Remove the hard drive (see

).
To remove the optical drive:
1.
Remove the Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screw
(1)
that secures the optical drive to the computer.
2.
Insert a screwdriver or similar small tool into the hole at the rear of the optical drive bay, and
then push the optical drive
(2)
to release it from the bay.
