Failing component Disk module Continue after failure? What happens and how to recover Yes Applications continue running. System Administrator or service provider replaces module. SP Yes Fan pack Yes Power supply Yes SCSI-2 adapter/ Yes cable Provides the same features as the basic configuration, but with better performance and higher availability. Applications can continue to run after the failure of a single disk module. If one SP fails, ownership of the failed SP's LUNs can transfer automatically to the remaining operational SP. If a primary and an alternate path have been configured in LVM, LVM switches automatically to the alternate path. These operations are transparent to the user. Applications continue running. System Administrator or service provider replaces module. If a redundant power supply module is present, applications continue running; otherwise, disk array fails. Service provider replaces power supply. The System Administrator restarts the operating system if necessary. I/O operations fail to all physical disk units configured on SP attached to a failed SCSI-2 adapter/cable. The System Administrator can transfer control to the other SP and adapter by changing host(s) and array configuration. If the SCSI-2 adapter or SCSI-2 cable fails, can regain access to the LUNs associated with the failed SP, host adapter, or SCSI-2 cable only if changes are made manually in Grid Manager and LVM. 4-16
