B Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Checklist Most problems that occur with your host adapter result from errors in preparing and connecting devices on the SCSI bus. If you have problems when using your host adapter, check these items first. • Are all SCSI devices powered? • Are all SCSI bus cables and power cables properly connected? • Is the host adapter firmly seated and secured in a PCI slot that is capable of bus mastering? • Is pin-1 orientation maintained throughout the SCSI bus? • Does the host adapter and all devices on the SCSI bus have unique SCSI IDs? • Are all devices on the SCSI bus terminated properly? • Are the PCI configuration parameters set correctly in your HP Netservers setup program? • Is parity checking consistently enabled or disabled on all devices on the SCSI bus? If your problems persist, continue with the following sections. Common Error Messages If the host adapter BIOS is enabled, but it fails to initialize, the system displays a specific error message followed by a BIOS Installation Failure message. Here are some of these error messages and their meanings: Device connected, but not ready. The host adapter received no answer when it requested data from an installed SCSI device. Try setting the Send Start Unit Command to yes for the host adapter. 101
