Removal and replacement procedures Reverse this procedure to install the fan/heat sink assembly. Processor ✎ The processor spare part kit includes replacement thermal material. Description Intel Core2 Quad processors (8-MB L2 cache, 1333-MHz FSB): ■ i7-820QM processor (1.73-GHz, SC turbo up to 3.06-GHz) ■ i7-720QM processor (1.60-GHz, SC turbo up to 2.80-GHz) Spare part number 583053-001 586170-001 Before removing the processor, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see "Battery" on page 4-6) 5. Remove the following components: a. Optical drive (see "Optical drive" on page 4-7) b. Hard drive (see "Hard drive" on page 4-11) c. Removal and replacement procedures
Reverse this procedure to install the fan/heat sink assembly.
Processor
The processor spare part kit includes replacement thermal material.
Before removing the processor, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on,
and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then
unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
