2 passwd • If you are logged in as the root user when changing another user's password, you are not prompted to enter the old password. • The command is disabled until you have changed all the login passwords from the manufacture default values. If the fabric is in secure mode, the behavior of the command is as follows: • The command can only be run on the primary FCS switch. The changed passwords will be distributed to all FCS switches. Non FCS switches will be updated except when the changed password is for root, factory, or admin account. • Changing the password of any user level causes the login session of that account (if logged in) to terminate. • Switches will accept the password database that have the SecurityAdmin role listed. For adding, deleting, or changing accounts with the SecurityAdmin role, the Primary switch must be v5.3.0. The execution of this command is subject to Admin Domain restrictions that may be in place. Operands This command has the following operand: "user" Specify the name of the user in quotation marks, where the password is to be changed. This operand is optional and must be an existing account, either default or user-created. You can only specify the name of the user when you are the level of "root", factory" "SecurityAdmin", or "admin". If you are root account, you are not prompted to enter the current password of the target account. If you are factory account, you are not prompted to enter the current password unless the target account is root. If you are admin or securityAdmin account, you are not prompted to enter the current password unless the target account is root or factory. Examples To change the password for the admin user: switch:admin> passwd "admin" Changing password for admin Enter new password: Re-type new password: Password changed. Saving password to stable storage. Password saved to stable storage successfully. Diagnostics When failures are detected, the subtext might report one or more of the following error messages: RADIUS enabled error Password change disallowed, RADIUS authentication is enabled. Password error Password length, strength, or history policy not met. "user" is not a valid user name You have not specified a user name that is a valid recognized user name on the system. Permission denied You do not have permission to change the login name or password specified.
