Step 3-Configuring the cabling In HP 600 and HP 800 Workstations, if the internal bays are not filled to capacity, the pre-installed blind-mate data cables for the unused internal hard drive bays must be unplugged from the system board, to enable the proper connection of the hard drives installed in this bracket. After all internal and optical bay hard drives are connected, the blind mate cabling may be reconnected to the next available ports on the system board. NOTE: To locate connectors on the system board, see the service label on the side access panel. Connect the power and data cables. 1. Locate the optical device power supply cable and connect it to the hard drive . 2. Select the SATA interconnect data cable from those supplied with the hard drive kit that best fits the hardware configuration of the workstation. 3. Connect one end of the data cable to the hard drive 2. 4. Connect the opposite end of the data cable to the system board or compatible RAID controller card. Always start with the lowest numbered port connector available on the system board. NOTE: The HP 800 Workstation has both SATA and SAS connectors on the system board. • SATA hard drives are plugged into SATA ports, starting with SATA0 • SAS hard drives are plugged into SAS ports, starting with SAS0 Figure 6 Optical bay power and data connections ENWW Step 3-Configuring the cabling 7
