Chapter 6. Symptom-to-FRU Index The Symptom-to-FRU index lists error symptoms and possible causes. The most likely cause is listed first. Always begin with Chapter 4, "General Checkout," on page 13. This index can also be used to help you decide which FRUs to have available when servicing a computer. Notes: • If you have both an error message and an incorrect audio response diagnose the error message first. • If you cannot run the diagnostic tests or you get a diagnostic error code when running a test but did receive a POST error message diagnose the POST error message first. • If you did not receive any error message look for a description of your error symptoms in the first part of this index. Hard disk drive boot error A hard disk drive boot error (error codes 1962) can have the following cause. Error No operating system found. Press any key to repeat boot sequence. FRU/Action Install an operating system on the boot drive. Power Supply Problems If you suspect a power problem, use the following procedures. Check/Verify Check the following for proper installation. • Power adapter connector • System Board Power adapter connectors • Microprocessor(s) connection FRU/Action Reseat connectors Beep symptoms Beep symptoms are tones or a series of tones separated by pauses (intervals without sound) during POST. The following tables describes beep symptoms. Beep Symptom 4 beeps System can not connect Memory or Memory is broken. FRU/Action Reseat the memory, or replace with known good modules. POST error codes Each time you power-on the system, it performs a series of tests that check the operation of the system and some options. A hard disk drive boot error (error codes 1962) can have the following cause.
