Replacing the optical drive Attention: Do not remove the computer cover or attempt any repairs before reading the "Important safety information" in the Safety and Warranty Guide that was included with your computer or in the Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) for the computer. To obtain copies of the Safety and Warranty Guide or HMM, go to the Support Web site at: http://support.lenovo.com This section provides instructions on how to replace the optical drive. To replace the optical drive, do the following. 1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Place a soft, clean towel or cloth on the desk or other flat surface. Hold the sides of your computer and gently lay it down so that the screen is resting on the towel or cloth and the cover is facing up. 3. Remove the computer stand. See "Removing and reattaching the frame stand", "Removing and reattaching the monitor stand", or "Removing and reattaching the transformer stand". 4. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover". 5. Remove the screw that secures the optical drive. Then slide the optical drive outward as shown to disconnect it from the cable and slide it out of the optical drive bay. 2 User Guide 39

This section provides instructions on how to replace the optical drive.
To replace the optical drive, do the following.
1.
Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the
computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and
disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.
2.
Place a soft, clean towel or cloth on the desk or other flat surface. Hold the
sides of your computer and gently lay it down so that the screen is resting on
the towel or cloth and the cover is facing up.
3.
Remove the computer stand. See “Removing and reattaching the frame stand”,

4.
Remove the computer cover. See “Removing the computer cover”.
5. Remove the screw
that secures the optical drive. Then slide the optical drive
outward as shown to disconnect it from the cable and slide it out of the optical
drive bay.
