Troubleshooting Charts Problem You cannot set a higher resolution than the present one on your external monitor. Cause and Action Make sure that: The display driver is installed correctly by doing the following: 1. Click on Start. 2. Move the cursor to Settings and Control Panel. 3. Click on Control Panel, and then double-click on Display. 4. Select the Settings tab in the "Display Properties" window. 5. (Windows 98) Click on Advanced.... (Windows NT) Click on Display Type. Make sure that the ThinkPad display driver is installed in the adapter information window. 6. Click on the OK button. If you are not sure that the display driver is installed correctly, reinstall it. An appropriate monitor type is selected by doing the following: 1. Click on Start. 2. Move the cursor to Settings and Control Panel. 3. Click on Control Panel, and then double-click on Display. 4. Select the Settings tab in the "Display Properties" window. 5. Click on the Advanced... button. 6. Click on the Monitor tab. 7. Click on the Change... button. The "Update Device Driver Wizard" appears. 8. Select the Next button, and follow the instructions on the screen by selecting Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want, and then Show all hardware. 9. Select Manufacturers and Models for your monitor, and follow the instructions on the screen. 10. Click on the OK button to close the "Properties" window after updating the driver. 11.
