Format Memory/ Format Card If no memory card is inserted, this option is named Format memory and formats internal memory. Otherwise it is named Format card and formats the memory card for use in the camera. Note that formatting permanently deletes all pictures and other data. Be sure to make copies as required before formatting. Formatting a memory card also deletes any Pictmotion background tracks that may be present; tracks can be copied to the card again when formatting is complete. Two format options are available when a memory card is inserted: Quick format (formats only areas of the card on which data are stored) and Format (formats entire card). Format is not available when batteries are low. Format Do not turn the camera off, disconnect the AC adapter, or remove the battery or memory card during formatting. Use the Format option to format memory cards before first use and reformat them regularly thereafter. Without regular formatting, performance will drop with use.
