Image Quality Controls used The camera supports the following image quality options (listed in descending order by image quality and file size): Option Format Description RAW NEF Compressed raw data from the image sensor are saved directly to memory card. Choose for images that will be retouched on a computer. FINE Images are compressed less than NORM, producing higher-quality images. Compression ratio: roughly 1:4. NORM (default) JPEG Best choice in most situations. Compression ratio: roughly 1:8. BASIC Smaller file size suited to e-mail or the Web. Compression ratio: roughly 1:16. RAW + B NEF + JPEG Two images image. are recorded: one NEF (RAW) image and one basic-quality JPEG Image Size Controls used Image size is measured in pixels. The following options are available: Image size L (default) M S Size (pixels) 3,008 × 2,000 2,256× 1,496 1,504 × 1,000 Approximate size when printed at 200 dpi 38.2×25.4cm (15.0×10.0in.) 28.6×19.0cm (11.3×7.5in.) 19.1×12.7cm (7.5×5.0in.) Note that the option selected for image size does not affect the size of NEF (RAW) images.
