Troubleshooting Problem Cause/Solution A Monitor turns off, and the Battery temperature is high. Turn off camera and 14 power-on lamp flashes quickly. allow battery to cool down before resuming use. After the lamps flash for three minutes, the camera will turn off automatically. Pressing the power switch also turns off the camera. Electronically Controlled Cameras In extremely rare instances, unusual characters may appear in the monitor and the camera may stop functioning. In most cases, this phenomenon is caused by a strong external static charge. Turn the camera off, remove and replace the battery, then turn the camera on again. In the event of continued malfunction, contact your retailer or Nikon-authorized service representative. Note that disconnecting the power source as described above may result in the loss of any data not saved to internal memory or the memory card at the time the problem occurred. Data already saved will not be affected. Shooting Problem Cause/Solution No picture taken when shutter- • When the camera is in playback mode, press release button is pressed. the A button, shutter-release button, or b (e movie-record) button. • When menus are displayed, press the d button. • Battery exhausted. • When flash lamp flashes, flash is charging. Cannot use shooting mode. Disconnect the USB cable. Camera cannot focus. • The subject is too close to the camera. Try shooting with easy auto mode, Close-up scene mode, or macro mode. • The intended subject is one with which autofocus does not perform well. • Focus error. Turn camera off and then on again. Images are blurred. • Use flash. • Raise the ISO sensitivity. • Use vibration reduction or motion detection. • Use D (Best Shot Selector). • Use tripod and self-timer.
