Menu functions • To search users and groups, see Search in Start an instant messaging conversation on page 40. • To read a message for a new instant messaging conversation, see Read a received instant message on page 42. • To write and send messages during an active instant messaging conversation, see Participate in an instant messaging conversation on page 42. • To view, rename, or delete saved conversations, select Saved conversations when you have accessed the Instant messages menu. • To block or unblock contacts, see Block and unblock messages on page 43. • To disconnect from the instant messaging service, see Connect to and disconnect from the instant messaging service on page 40. Access the instant messaging menu To access the Instant messages menu while still offline, select Menu > Messages > Instant messages. If more than one set of connection settings for instant messaging service is available, select the desired one. If there is only one set defined, it is selected automatically. • To connect to the instant messaging service, select Login. You can set the phone to automatically connect to the instant messaging service when you open the Instant messages menu. See Connect to and disconnect from the instant messaging service on page 40. • To view, erase, or rename the conversations that you have saved during an instant messaging conversation, select Saved conversations. • To view the settings needed for instant messaging and presence, select Connect. settings. You may receive the settings as a configuration message. See Configuration settings service on page 11. To enter the settings manually, see Configuration on page 70. To select the configuration settings that support instant messaging, select Configuration > Default, Personal config., or a service provider. 39

Access the instant messaging menu
To access the
Instant messages
menu while still offline, select

settings for instant messaging service is available, select the desired
one. If there is only one set defined, it is selected automatically.
To connect to the instant messaging service, select
Login
. You can
set the phone to automatically connect to the instant messaging
service when you open the
Instant messages
menu. See Connect to
and disconnect from the instant messaging service on page 40.
