Glossary of terms JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) A compression format for color still images. Photographs (images) shot using this camera are recorded onto the card in JPEG format when the record mode is set to SHQ, HQ or SQ. By downloading these images to a personal computer, users can edit them using graphics application software or view the images using an Internet web browser. NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) / PAL (Phase Alternating Line) Television formats. NTSC is mainly used in Japan, North America and Korea. PAL is mainly used in Europe and China. Pixels A pixel is the smallest unit (dot) used to make up an image. Clear large-sized printed images require millions of pixels. Resolution The size of the picture expressed as the number of dots (pixels) that make up the image. For instance, a picture taken in 640 x 480 resolution is the same size as the PC screen when the monitor setting is 640 x 480. However, if the monitor setting is 1024 x 768, the picture only takes up part of the screen. Sleep Mode A mode designed to save battery life. The camera automatically enters the sleep mode if you do not operate it for a certain time. To activate the camera again, touch any button (shutter button, arrow pad, etc.). TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) Color Monitor A color monitor constructed using thin-film technology. 9 136 Miscellaneous
