You stood directly in front of the camera and pressed the shutter release button when using the selftimer. Press the shutter release button while looking through the viewfinder, not when standing in front of the camera. (p. 40) The finished prints are dark. The fingers, etc., were in front of the flash. Hold the camera correctly so the flash is not covered by the fingers, etc. (p. 17) The subject was beyond the flash range. Position the subject within the flash range.
