ZOOMING IN AND OUT Use the zoom function for close-up or wide-angle recording. This camcorder allows you to record W T using 10x optical power zoom and 1200x digital 0, zoom. • You can zoom with the zoom lever or the Control (W/T) button on the LCD panel. • Zoom magnification over 10x uses digital image processing, and is therefore called digital zoom. Digital zooming can increase image size up to 1200x. Set "Digital Zoom" to "On." ²page 55 To zoom out Slide the Zoom lever towards W (wide-angle). (Or press the Control button ( ) on the LCD panel.) To zoom in Slide the Zoom lever towards T (telephoto). (Or press the Control button ( ) on the LCD panel.) 0, 0, WT W: Wide-angle T: Telephoto WT Tip When using the zoom function, you can decrease its speed by moving the Zoom (W/T) lever slowly. Moving it quickly increases the zoom speed. However, if you use the Zoom (W/T) button on the display, you cannot adjust the zoom speed. • The minimum possible distance between camcorder and subject while maintaining sharp focus is about 5cm (about 1.96 inch) for wide-angle and 1m (about 39.4 inch) for telephoto. • Zooming during a recording may cause the camcorder to record the sound of the zoom lever or zoom button. • Optical zoom preserves image quality, but during digital zoom, the image quality may suffer. • Fast zooming or zooming in on a far subject may cause slow focus. In this case, use "Manual Focus." ²page 51 • When you do hand held recording, we recommend you use "Anti-Shake (HDIS)" if you zoom in on the subject. ²page 52 • Frequent use of the zoom function consumes more power. 39
