Messages and Signals Messages and Signals Display messages ADD PAPER & / PRESS START KEY (alternating messages) COVER OPEN DIAL WAITING DOCUMENT JAMMED DRUM LIFE OVER FAX RX IN MEMORY FUNCTION MODE GROUP SPACE FULL HEATER HIGH/ HEATER LOW/ HEATER ERROR Check the printing paper. If the tray is empty, add paper and then press the START key. If there is paper in the tray, make sure it is inserted correctly (take out the stack, align the edges evenly, and then reinsert it in the tray) and then press the START key. The print compartment cover is open. Close it. Dialing is not possible because the fax machine is sending or receiving a fax, the handset is being used, or an extension phone is being used. The original document is jammed. See the following section, Clearing Paper Jams. Document jams will occur if you load more than 20 pages at once or load documents that are too thick (see page 31). The document may also jam if the receiving machine doesn't respond properly when you attempt to send a fax. This appears when the drum cartridge needs replacement. A fax has been received in memory because the toner cartridge needs replacement, you have run out of printing paper, or the paper is jammed. The fax will print out automatically when the problem is fixed. The FUNCTION key has been pressed. This appears if you attempt to program a Group Key when all Group Keys have already been programmed. If one of these messages appears, unplug the power cord and then plug it back in. If the message still appears, call for service. 102
