V O F 4 Adjusting Stitch Length Frrrrifr 3 4r1-1--Tr--1--1 Incorrect *4/ Correct Adjusting Thread Tension 24 satin stitching Satin stitching-a series of closely spaced zig-zag stitches that form a smooth, satinlike surface-is useful for both practical and decorative work. When you wish to produce a satin stitch for applique or bar tacks, for example, make a test sample first so that you can adjust the stitch length and thread tension properly. Soft fabrics may require a backing to ensure firm satin stitching. ACCESSORIES AND SELECTOR SETTINGS I • Needle Position: • Stitch Width: to • Stitch Length: 0-1 • General Purpose Needle Plate • Special Purpose Foot • Pressure: NORM Adjusting Stitch Length 1. Turn stitch length selector dial to 1 (the beginning of O-1 area). 2. Run machine at a slow speed. 3. Gradually turn the stitch length dial clockwise until stitches are closely spaced and form a smooth surface. Adjusting Thread Tension Satin stitching requires less tension than straight stitching or open zig-zag stitching. Futrhermore, the wider the stitch, the lighter the tension on the thread must be. Notice the stitching on your sample. If the fabric is puckered, lower the needlethread tension by turning the tension dial to a lower number,
