9 General Warnings and Instructions ■ To reduce the risk of short circuit and fire: - Keep the battery guides free of foreign matter. Clean as necessary with a dry cloth or soft, dry brush. ■ Improper storage can result in unauthorized use, damage to the blower, battery and charger and an increased risk of fire, electric shock and other personal injury or property damage. - Remove the battery from the blower before storing. - Never store the blower or charger with the battery inserted. - Before storing, always unplug the charger from the electrical outlet and remove the battery. - Store the blower, battery and charger indoors in a dry, secure place that cannot be accessed by children or other unauthorized users. - Never store the battery in the blower, in the charger, in a metal container or in a container with metal objects (e.g., paper clips, nails, coins, keys). 9 General Warnings and Instructions 9.1 General Safety Warnings and Instructions for Battery-Powered Products This section contains the general safety warnings and instructions for battery-powered products contained in UL 2595 / CSA C22.2 No. 0.23. WARNING ■ Read all safety warnings and instructions. ■ Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire, explosion and/or serious injury or property damage. ■ Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the trigger switch is in the off-position before inserting the battery, picking up or carrying the blower. Carrying the blower with your finger English on the trigger switch or inserting the battery with the trigger switch engaged increases the likelihood of unintended starting and possible accidents. ■ Remove the battery from the blower before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the blower accidentally. ■ Recharge only with the charger specified by STIHL. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery may create a risk of fire when used with another battery. ■ Use the blower only with the specifically designated batteries. Use of any other battery may create a risk of fire or explosion and personal injury or property damage. ■ When the battery is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Do not store it in a metal container. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire or explosion. ■ Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation, chemical burns or respiratory illness from inhalation. ■ Do not use a battery or blower that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in fire, explosion and risk of injury or property damage. ■ Do not expose a battery or the blower to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperatures above 212 °F (100 °C) may cause fire and explosion. ■ Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery outside of the ambient temperature range specified. Charging improperly or outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire. ■ Have servicing performed by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. 0458-008-8601-A 15
