Getting Started Chapter 3 Getting Started Before you attempt to use your computer, make sure to read the Instruction Manual for Safety and Comfort included in the package. The Instruction Manual for Safety and Comfort provides you with instructions to safely and fully use your computer. This chapter provides basic information to get you started using your computer. It covers the following topics: ■ Connecting the AC adapter ■ Opening the display ■ Turning on the power ■ Starting up for the first time ■ Turning off the power ■ Restarting the computer ■ Restoring the preinstalled software from the Product Recovery disc (provided with some models). All users should be sure to carefully read the section Starting up for the first time, which describes the actions to take when you first turn on the power to the computer. Connecting the AC adapter Attach the AC adapter when you need to charge the battery or you want to operate from AC power. It is also the fastest way to get started, because the battery pack will need to be charged before you can operate from battery power. The AC adapter can be connected to any power source supplying from 100 to 240 volts and 50 or 60 hertz. For details on using the AC adapter to charge the battery pack, refer to Chapter 6: Power and Power-Up Modes. User's Manual 3-1
