48 Getting Started Setting up your computer Setting up your computer TECHNICAL NOTE: You must complete all setup steps as described in "Setting up your software" on page 49 before adding external or internal components to your computer. These components include, but are not limited to, a mouse, keyboard, printer, memory, and PC cards. Your computer comes with a rechargeable battery pack that must be charged before you can use it. To use external power or to charge the battery, you must attach the AC adapter. See "Connecting to a power source" on page 50. To register your computer online, or to sign up for an Internet account, you must be connected to the Internet using a modem or LAN connection. Before adding any of these devices to the computer, be sure to complete "Setting up your software" on page 49. After setting up your computer, you may want to: ❖ Add more memory (see "Adding memory" on page 56) ❖ Connect a mouse (see "Connecting a USB mouse" on page 82) ❖ Connect a full-size keyboard (see "Using an external keyboard" on page 82) ❖ Connect an external monitor (see "Using external display devices" on page 78) ❖ Connect a local printer (see "Connecting a local printer" on page 134) ❖ Install PC Cards (see "Using your computer at the office" on page 103)

Setting up your computer
TECHNICAL NOTE: You must complete all setup steps as

adding external or internal components to your computer.
These components include, but are not limited to, a mouse,
keyboard, printer, memory, and PC cards.
Your computer comes with a rechargeable battery pack that
must be charged before you can use it.
To use external power or to charge the battery, you must
