Playback ■ Enjoying pure hi-fi stereo sound The DIRECT STEREO mode allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors of this unit so that you can enjoy pure hi-fi sound from 2-channel PCM and analog sources. Press CDIRECT STEREO (or press DAMP and then press VDIRECT ST.) to select "DIRECT STEREO". Notes • To avoid unexpected noise, do not play CDs encoded in DTS when the DIRECT STEREO mode is selected. • When multi-channel signals (Dolby Digital and DTS) are input, this unit automatically switches to the corresponding analog input. • No sound will be output from the subwoofer. • "TONE CONTROL" (on this page) and "SOUND MENU" (see page 48) settings (except for speaker level settings) are not effective. • The front panel display automatically dims. ■ Adjusting the tonal quality Press 0TONE CONTROL repeatedly to select "BASS" or "TREBLE" and then press APROGRAM l / h (or JPROGl / h) to adjust the corresponding frequency response level. • Select "BASS" to adjust the low-frequency response. • Select "TREBLE" to adjust the high-frequency response. Notes • Speaker and headphone adjustments are stored independently. • If you increase or decrease the high-frequency or low-frequency sound to an extreme level, the tonal quality of the surround speakers may not match that of the front left and right speakers. ■ Adjusting speaker levels during playback You can adjust the output level of each speaker while listening to a music source. Note This operation will override the level adjustments made in "AUTO SETUP" (see page 24) and "SP LEVEL" (see page 50). 1 Press DAMP and then press FLEVEL repeatedly to select the speaker you want to adjust.
