38.5 UPnP Chapter 38 Troubleshooting When using UPnP and the VMG reboots, my computer cannot detect UPnP. 1 Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the VMG's LAN port or from your computer. 2 Re-connect the Ethernet cable. The Local Area Connection icon for UPnP disappears in the screen. Restart your computer. 38.6 VoIP Call Quality My voice calls are choppy? How can I solve this problem? The following factors may cause choppy voice: • Wrong compression code. • Insufficient bandwidth. To correct choppy voice calls, you can: • Make sure you configured a proper compression code (VoIP > SIP > SIP Account > Edit account screen) for Voice Features > Primary Compression Type, Secondary Compression Type and Third Compression Type. (See Section 21.3 on page 214). • Configure the VMG's QoS to prioritize voice applications in Upstream Traffic Priority Assigned by (Network Setting > QoS > General). (See Section 10.3 on page 142). Deprioritize gaming and other similar applications. • Turn off all other applications, especially those that use up a lot of bandwidth, such as gaming and file streaming applications (Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, etc.). • Test to confirm that your bandwidth usage is causing choppy voice in your VoIP service. There are several websites that offer this service free. • Try turning off other computers connected to your network. • Do a power cycle to see if renewed connections can speed things up. • Try connecting directly to your VMG rather than through the wireless network to see if that makes a difference. • Run a test for malware and/or spyware.
