1 Off-Road Recovery off You may find that your right wheels have dropped the edge of a road onto the shoulder while you're driving. OFF-ROAD RECOVERY RECOVER LEFT 0 8 APPROX. QUARTERTURN An emergencylike this requires close attention and a quick decision. If you are holdingthe steering wheel at the recommended 9 and 3 o'clock positions, you can tum it a full 180 degrees very quickly without removing either hand. But you have to fast, steer quickly, and act just as quickly straighten wheel onceyou~have the avoided the object. The fact that such emergency situations are always possible is a good reason to practice defensive driving at all times and wear safety belts properly. If the level of the shoulder is only slightly below the off pavement, recovery should be fakly easy. Ease the nothing in the way, steerso accelerator and then, if there is that your vehicle straddles the edge of the pavement.
