Periodic Maintenance Inspections Listed belowareinspectionsandserviceswhichshould beperformedatleast twiceayear(forinstance,eachspring or fall). SteeringandSuspension lnspectiont -Inspect frontandrearsuspension andsteeringsystemfordamaged,looseormissingparts,signs ofwearor lack of lubrication.Inspectpowersteeringlinesandhosesforproperhook-up, binding,leaks,cracks,chafing,etc.(Onvehiclesequippedwithmanual steering gear,checkforsealleakage.)Lubricatethesteeringlinkage. AcceleratorControlSystem -Lubricateallpivotpointswithengineoil, exceptthe TBI throttleshaft. Do notlubricatethecampulley.Removeall or cruisecontrol externaldepositsfrompulley. Do notoilanyaccelerator cables.Replaceanycablesthathave high effort orexcessivewear. ExhaustSystemInspection -Inspect thecompletesystemincludingthe three-waycatalyticconverter.Inspectthebodyneartheexhaustsystem.Look forbroken,damaged,missingorout-of-positionparts,aswellasopenseams, holes,looseconnectionsorotherconditionswhich could causeaheatbuildup in thefloorpanor could letexhaustfumesseepintothepassenger compartments. DriveAxleService -Check rearlfrontaxlefluidlevelandadd Checkconstantvelocityjointsandaxlesealsforleaking. asneeded. TransferCase(all-wheeldrive) lnspectiont -Every 12 monthsoratoil changeintervals,checkfrontaxleandtransfercaseandaddlubricantwhen necessary.
