Manual Transmission (With an External Telephone) Manual transmission lets you hear the dial tone, ringing and fax receiving tones while sending the fax. 1 Place the original face up in the ADF, or face down on the scanner glass. 2 Pick up the handset of the external phone and listen for a dial tone. 3 Dial the fax number you want to call on the external phone. 4 When you hear the fax tone, press Black Fax Start. 5 Replace the handset of the external phone. Automatic Transmission This is the easiest way to send a fax. 1 Place the original face up in the ADF, or face down on the scanner glass. 2 Enter the fax number using the dial pad, Speed Dial or Search. (See Speed Dialing, page 7-4.) 3 Press Black Fax Start. Color Fax Transmission Your MFC allows you to transmit a color fax. 1 Place the original face up in the ADF, or face down on the scanner glass. 2 Enter the fax number using the dial pad, Speed Dial or Search. 3 Press Color Fax Start. When you send a color fax, the MFC sends the fax without scanning the original into memory. Manual and Automatic Fax Redial If you're sending a fax manually and the line is busy, press Redial/Pause to try again. Anytime you want to make a second call to the last number dialed, press Redial/Pause to save time. If you're sending a fax automatically and the line is busy, the MFC will automatically redial (up to three times at five minute intervals). Dual Access (Not Available for Color Fax) You can place an original in the ADF and set temporary settings, dial a number, and begin scanning the fax into memory-even when the MFC is receiving a fax, sending a fax, or printing a fax from memory. Manual Transmission (With an External Telephone)
Manual transmission lets you hear the dial tone, ringing and fax receiving tones
while sending the fax.

Place the original face up in the ADF, or face down on the scanner glass.

Pick up the handset of the external phone and listen for a dial tone.

Dial the fax number you want to call on the external phone.

When you hear the fax tone, press
Black Fax Start
.

Replace the handset of the external phone.
Automatic Transmission
This is the easiest way to send a fax.

Place the original face up in the ADF, or face down on the scanner glass.

Enter the fax number using the dial pad, Speed Dial or Search.

Manual and Automatic Fax Redial
If
you’re sending a fax manually
and the line is busy, press
Redial/Pause
to

If you’re sending a fax automatically
and the line is busy, the MFC will
automatically redial (up to three times at five minute intervals).
