Chapter 2 Preparing to Install the Cisco Unified IP Video Phone on Your Network Understanding Phone Configuration Files Obtaining Additional Information about Power For related information about power, refer to the documents shown in Table 2-2. These documents provide information about these topics: • Cisco switches that work with the Cisco Unified IP Phone. • The Cisco IOS releases that support bidirectional power negotiation • Other requirements and restrictions regarding power Table 2-2 Related Documentation for Power Document Topics PoE Solutions Cisco Catalyst Switches Integrated Service Routers Cisco IOS Software URL http://www.cisco.com/en/US/netsol/ ns340/ns394/ns147/ns412/networking _solutions_package.html http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/ doc/product/lan/index.htm http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products /hw/routers/index.html http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products /sw/iosswrel/products_ios_cisco_ios_ software_category_home.html Understanding Phone Configuration Files The TFTP server stores configuration files for a phone that define parameters for connecting to Cisco Unified CallManager. In general, any time that you make a change in Cisco Unified CallManager that requires the phone to be reset, a change occurs to the phone configuration file automatically. Configuration files also contain information about the image load that the phone should be running. If this image load differs from the one currently that is loaded on a phone, the phone contacts the TFTP server to request the required .bin file. A phone requests a configuration file whenever it resets and registers with Cisco Unified CallManager. OL-8726-02 Cisco Unified IP Video Phone 7985G Administration Guide 2-6
