Chapter 3 Assigning the Switch IP Address and Default Gateway Modifying the Startup Configuration To return to the default setting, use the no boot config-file global configuration command. Booting Manually By default, the switch automatically boots up; however, you can configure it to manually boot up. Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to configure the switch to manually boot up during the next boot cycle: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Command configure terminal boot manual end show boot Step 5 copy running-config startup-config Purpose Enter global configuration mode. Enable the switch to manually boot up during the next boot cycle. Return to privileged EXEC mode. Verify your entries. The boot manual global command changes the setting of the MANUAL_BOOT environment variable. The next time you reboot the system, the switch is in boot loader mode, shown by the switch: prompt. To boot up the system, use the boot filesystem:/file-url boot loader command. • For filesystem:, use flash: for the system board flash device. • For file-url, specify the path (directory) and the name of the bootable image. Filenames and directory names are case sensitive. (Optional) Save your entries in the configuration file. To disable manual booting, use the no boot manual global configuration command.
