4 Data mobility for volumes and volume groups Migrate storage resources to another appliance About this task Use this feature to move volumes or volume groups to another appliance in the cluster without any disruption. Before removing or shutting down an appliance for service, use this feature to migrate storage resources to another appliance and prevent disruption. When you migrate a volume or volume group, all associated snapshots and thin clones also migrate with the storage resource. During the migration, there will be additional work space allocated on the source appliance to facilitate data movement. The amount of space needed depends on the number of storage objects and amount of data being migrated. This work space is released and freed up after the migration completes. NOTE: In this release, you can only migrate volumes and volume groups between appliances within a cluster. File-based storage resources are provisioned and managed only on the primary appliance of a cluster. You can either manually migrate storage resources or use the recommendations in PowerStore Manager: • Manual migration - You can choose to provision a volume or a volume group on a specific appliance or have it automatically get provisioned on an appliance. You can choose to migrate the storage resources to another appliance in the cluster later. • Assisted migration - In the background, the system periodically monitors storage resource utilization across the appliances. Migration recommendations are generated based on factors such as drive wear, appliance capacity, and health. If you accept a migration recommendation, a migration session gets automatically created. NOTE: To ensure that the storage is accessible to the hosts after migration is complete, you must rescan associated host adapters when you start the migration process. To migrate your volume or volume group to another appliance in your cluster: Steps 1. Under Storage, select Volumes or Volume Groups. 2. Select the storage resource that you want to migrate. 3. Under More Actions, select Migrate. 4. On the Migrate slide-out panel: a) If applicable, rescan the associated host adapters for the listed hosts to ensure that the storage is accessible after the migration is complete. b) Review the performance and capacity information of the appliances available, and then select an appliance that best meets the requirements for the storage resource. 5. Click Start Migration. A migration session gets created, which you can monitor under Migration > Internal Migration. 14 Data mobility for volumes and volume groups

Data mobility for volumes and volume groups
Migrate storage resources to another appliance
About this task
Use this feature to move volumes or volume groups to another appliance in the cluster without any disruption. Before removing or
shutting down an appliance for service, use this feature to migrate storage resources to another appliance and prevent disruption. When
you migrate a volume or volume group, all associated snapshots and thin clones also migrate with the storage resource. During the
migration, there will be additional work space allocated on the source appliance to facilitate data movement. The amount of space needed
depends on the number of storage objects and amount of data being migrated. This work space is released and freed up after the
migration completes.
NOTE:
In this release, you can only migrate volumes and volume groups between appliances within a cluster. File-based
storage resources are provisioned and managed only on the primary appliance of a cluster.
You can either manually migrate storage resources or use the recommendations in PowerStore Manager:
Manual migration - You can choose to provision a volume or a volume group on a specific appliance or have it automatically get
provisioned on an appliance. You can choose to migrate the storage resources to another appliance in the cluster later.
Assisted migration - In the background, the system periodically monitors storage resource utilization across the appliances. Migration
recommendations are generated based on factors such as drive wear, appliance capacity, and health. If you accept a migration
recommendation, a migration session gets automatically created.
NOTE:
To ensure that the storage is accessible to the hosts after migration is complete, you must rescan associated
host adapters when you start the migration process.
To migrate your volume or volume group to another appliance in your cluster:
Steps
1.
Under
Storage
, select
Volumes
or
Volume Groups
.
2.
Select the storage resource that you want to migrate.
3.
Under
More Actions
, select
Migrate
.
4.
On the
Migrate
slide-out panel:
a)
If applicable, rescan the associated host adapters for the listed hosts to ensure that the storage is accessible after the migration is
complete.
b)
Review the performance and capacity information of the appliances available, and then select an appliance that best meets the
requirements for the storage resource.
