To eliminate the risk of burns or fire from reaching over heated surfaces, cabinet storage space located above the cooktop should be avoided. If cabinet storage is provided, risk can be reduced by installing a range hood that projects horizontally a minimum of 5" (12.7 cm) beyond the bottom of the cabinets. If a drawer is present underneath, allow at least 6½" (16.5 cm) of clearance below the counter top. Make sure there will be no interference with gas or electrical connection.
