If the HP all-in-one detects fax tones, the HP all-inone will receive the fax. Also, set the number of rings to answer for the HP all-in-one to a number greater than the number of rings to answer for the answering machine. Distinctive ringing service. Automatic (The Auto Answer light is on.) The HP all-in-one automatically answers all incoming calls. Make sure the ring pattern the phone company set for your fax phone line matches the Answer Ring Pattern set for the HP all-in-one. For more information, see Change the answer ring pattern (distinctive ringing). Set the answer mode The answer mode determines whether your HP all-in-one answers incoming calls or not. If you set up the HP all-in-one to answer faxes automatically (the Auto Answer light is on), it answers all incoming calls and receives faxes.
