Also, set the number of rings to answer for the HP all-in-one to a number greater than the number of rings to answer for the answering machine. The answering machine must answer the call before your HP all-in-one. For more information on setting the number of rings to answer, see Set the number of rings before answering. Distinctive ringing service. Automatic (The Auto Answer light is on.) The HP all-in-one automatically answers all incoming calls. Make sure the ring pattern the phone company set for your fax phone line matches the Answer Ring Pattern set for the HP all-in-one. If you set up the HP all-in-one to answer faxes automatically (the Auto Answer light is on), it answers all incoming calls and receives faxes.
